Shock and grief have swept across Ngora District and Uganda’s political landscape following the death of Hon. Stella Apolot Isodo, the incumbent and outgoing Woman Member of Parliament, who passed away just two days after the conclusion of the highly contested parliamentary polls.

The news of her death was confirmed by Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, who announced Apolot’s passing in a solemn message shared on X (formerly Twitter).

“With a heavy heart, I announce the unfortunate death of our colleague and sister Hon. Apolot Stella Isodo, the Woman Member of Parliament for Ngora District, after a short illness,” Among wrote.

According to a statement issued by the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) via social media, Hon. Apolot had been battling illness for several months. She had received treatment at Doctors Plaza in Soroti and later abroad in India, before her condition worsened.

The party clarified that she passed away at Kampala Hospital, where she had been referred for specialized care and was awaiting surgery.

“Hon. Isodo was a devoted leader who served her people with commitment. She will be greatly missed,” the FDC said, extending condolences to her family, the people of Ngora District, and the nation.

Hon. Apolot’s passing follows a dramatic electoral outcome in Ngora District that signaled a shift in the district’s political landscape.

According to official results:

  • Josephine Pedun Pedun (NRM) won the Woman MP seat with 17,010 votes

  • Christine Abeja (DP) came second with 12,152 votes

  • Stella Isodo Apolot (FDC) finished third with 11,334 votes
