The Buganda Kingdom has officially launched its 2026 Luwalo Lwaffe fundraising drive, a flagship annual initiative that encourages voluntary contributions from the Kabaka’s subjects, friends, and well-wishers to support the Kingdom’s development programs. The launch took place on February 24, 2026, at the Kingdom’s headquarters in Bulange, Mengo, and was presided over by Katikkiro (Prime Minister) Charles Peter Mayiga, who addressed top contributors from last year and highlighted the enduring significance of the campaign.
Luwalo Lwaffe serves as the Kingdom’s primary self-sustaining funding source for operations and development projects. Katikkiro Mayiga noted that contributions reflect the unyielding spirit of Buganda—rooted in love for the nation, progress, sustenance, and defense. The 2025 campaign raised over Shs 1.953 billion, a 16% increase from 2024, funding key initiatives including:
- Establishing nursery schools across multiple counties
- Purchasing medical equipment for the Kingdom’s hospital in Ssingo
- Completing restoration work at the Kasubi Royal Tombs
- Supporting administrative operations
- Contributing to a stadium project in Buddu
The Kingdom emphasizes transparency, publishing annual financial reports detailing fund utilization. Mayiga encouraged continued participation in 2026, particularly in areas such as commercial agriculture, trade, and healthcare, to further improve community living standards.
During the launch, Minister of Local Government, Kabaka’s Tours and Diaspora Affairs Joseph Kawuki presented the audited 2025 figures and recognized top contributors. Kyaddondo County led the contributions, followed by Buddu, Busiro, Ssingo, and Kyaggwe. Awards were also given to outstanding sub-counties, institutions, parishes, and households. Notable pledges included Bukomansimbi South MP-elect Hassan Mukiibi Sserunjogi, who committed Shs 5 million and pledged to renovate his sub-county headquarters, while six sub-counties from Bulemeezi County collectively contributed over Shs 23 million.
The event was attended by senior officials, including the Speaker of the Buganda Lukiiko, ministers Noah Kiyimba and Israel Kazibwe Kitooke, Kawempe North MP-elect Elias Luyimbaazi Nalukoola, and many loyal subjects of the Kabaka.
Building on the momentum of 2025, the 2026 campaign underscores the Kingdom’s focus on inclusive participation, community-aligned development, and self-reliance. Subjects and supporters are called to contribute generously, continuing the tradition of communal support that strengthens Buganda’s cultural, social, and economic fabric.
