AFTV Set for Historic First Visit to Uganda in Week-Long Media Tour

The buzz is building as AFTV prepares for its first-ever visit to Uganda, running from April 24 to April 30, 2026. The trip marks a major moment for football media, blending fan culture, tourism promotion, and digital creator engagement in one high-profile tour.

The delegation, made up of 11 members including a full production crew, will be documenting the entire experience for its global audience.

From Fan Channel to Global Media Brand

Originally launched in 2012 as ArsenalFanTV, the platform was created by Robbie Lyle with a simple but disruptive idea, giving everyday football fans a voice outside stadiums.

Over time, it evolved into one of the most influential fan-led sports media platforms in the world, known for its raw post-match reactions and unfiltered commentary.

The Uganda visit features some of its most recognisable personalities, including veteran Arsenal supporter Lee Judges, who is visiting Africa for the first time, alongside presenter Cecil Jee Thomas.

Watch Parties Bringing Premier League Energy to Kampala

A key highlight of the tour will be a major Premier League watch party scheduled for April 25 at Kati-Kati Restaurant along Lugogo By-Pass, featuring Arsenal’s clash against Newcastle United.

Another viewing event is planned for a UEFA Champions League fixture against Atlético Madrid, turning Kampala into a temporary hub for international football fans.

The events are expected to attract large crowds of local supporters, particularly members of Uganda’s growing Arsenal fanbase.

Tourism and Uganda’s Global Image Push

Beyond football, the visit is being positioned as a major tourism and branding opportunity under the “#ExploreUganda” campaign.
The crew will spend two days visiting national parks and filming content aimed at showcasing Uganda’s landscapes, wildlife, and cultural heritage to millions of global viewers.

This aligns with broader efforts to strengthen Uganda’s profile as a destination for sports tourism and international events.

Digital Skills and Youth Engagement

A key part of the itinerary includes workshops led by Robbie Lyle focused on content creation, audience building, and monetisation strategies.
These sessions are designed to support young Ugandan creators looking to turn digital storytelling into sustainable careers in media and entertainment.

Government and Industry Backing

The visit has attracted support from major stakeholders, including Uganda Airlines and government tourism bodies, as part of a wider strategy to position Uganda as a regional sports and entertainment hub ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

A Cultural Bridge Between Fans and Global Football Media

For Uganda’s football community, particularly Arsenal supporters, the visit offers a rare chance to interact directly with the personalities they follow online.
More broadly, it reflects how fan-driven media has evolved into a global force, capable of connecting local communities to international sports culture in real time.
