Three people have died and two others sustained serious injuries following a fatal road crash that occurred early Monday morning along the Entebbe Expressway near Mpala Interchange.
According to Uganda Police, the crash happened at approximately 6:30 a.m. on March 16, 2026, when a Toyota Land Cruiser registration number UBG 734S reportedly lost control while heading toward Entebbe.
Authorities say the vehicle was being driven by businessman Ssenyonjo Bosco, a resident of Masaka, who was traveling with members of his family at the time of the accident.
Preliminary police findings indicate that the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle due to excessive speed while navigating the expressway.
The Land Cruiser first rammed into the base of a streetlight pole before colliding with a road pillar and overturning several times.
The violent impact resulted in the immediate deaths of three occupants, including the driver. Two other passengers survived the crash but suffered severe injuries.
Traffic Police officers quickly responded to the scene and coordinated rescue efforts. The injured victims were evacuated and transported to Grade B Hospital, where they received emergency first aid before being referred to another medical facility for further specialized treatment.
Police have not yet released the identities of the other victims pending notification of their families.
In a statement issued by SP Michael Kananura, the Community Liaison Officer and Public Relations Officer for the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety on X(Former Twitter) police extended condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the crash.
“Our heartfelt condolences go to the families and relatives of the deceased who lost their lives in this crash. Our thoughts are with them during this difficult time, and we wish a quick recovery to the injured,” Kananura said.
The Entebbe Expressway is one of Uganda’s busiest highways connecting Kampala to Entebbe International Airport. While the road has improved travel time, authorities have repeatedly warned motorists against speeding, which remains a major cause of fatal accidents.
Police have urged drivers to strictly observe speed limits, remain alert behind the wheel, and maintain full control of their vehicles while using the expressway.
Investigations into the exact circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing.
