The Ministry of Internal Affairs Uganda has announced that Ugandan passport holders can now travel to 40 destinations worldwide without applying for a visitor’s visa in advance, making international travel easier for tourism, business, and family visits.
According to government spokesperson Simon Mundeyi, travelers only need a valid Ugandan passport with at least six months’ validity to enter these countries. In most cases, immigration authorities issue a visa stamp on arrival, allowing visitors to stay between 7 and 90 days, depending on the country.
The move highlights Uganda’s growing diplomatic ties and travel agreements with other nations, as well as regional cooperation frameworks such as the East African Community.

Boost for Regional and Global Travel
Many of the listed countries—especially within East Africa such as Kenya, Rwanda, and Tanzania—already allow simplified travel arrangements for Ugandans, sometimes permitting entry using national IDs under regional agreements.
Long-haul destinations like Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and the United Arab Emirates provide additional opportunities for tourism, business travel, and trade connections.
Global rankings such as the Henley Passport Index indicate that the Ugandan passport offers access to around 65–70 destinations worldwide when visa-on-arrival and electronic travel authorization options are included.
Important Travel Tips
Travelers are advised to always check the latest requirements before departure. Some countries may still require:
- Yellow fever vaccination certificates
- Proof of accommodation or onward travel
- Sufficient funds for the duration of the stay
The government says this clarification aims to help Ugandans take advantage of easier travel opportunities while strengthening tourism, trade, and cultural exchange.
