Uganda has welcomed a high level Canadian tourism delegation in a strategic effort to expand its international tourism market and attract more visitors from North America. The delegation arrived at Entebbe International Airport on April 8, 2026, for a 10 day familiarization trip that will run until April 18, 2026.
The visit was organized by the Uganda High Commission in Ottawa in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities and the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB). The initiative aims to build direct relationships with key travel industry players and increase the number of Canadian tourists visiting Uganda in the coming years.
Canadian Tourism Delegation Explores Uganda
The delegation includes about 14 senior executives, among them tour operators, travel agents, and media influencers from Canada. During their stay, the group will tour several of Uganda’s major tourism destinations and participate in business to business meetings and cultural exchange activities.
Participants are expected to experience Uganda’s wildlife, conservation projects, cultural heritage, and adventure tourism products firsthand. Key highlights of the trip include gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, community tourism experiences, and exposure to sustainable travel initiatives that showcase Uganda’s commitment to responsible tourism.
Officials believe that allowing industry professionals to experience Uganda directly will help them design better travel packages and confidently market the country to Canadian travelers.

Building on Previous Tourism Engagements
The familiarization tour builds on earlier promotional efforts between Uganda and Canada. In November 2025, stakeholders held the Canada Uganda Business Forum, followed by a tourism roundtable discussion in December 2025 aimed at strengthening travel trade relations.
Uganda also participated in the IMPACT Sustainability Travel and Tourism Summit held in Victoria, British Columbia, in January 2026, where the country positioned itself as a leading destination for sustainable and community focused tourism.
These engagements have laid the groundwork for stronger tourism partnerships and increased visibility of Uganda in the Canadian market.
Strengthening Bilateral Tourism Ties
Tourism officials say the visit is expected to boost confidence among Canadian travel professionals and encourage the development of customized tour packages tailored to Canadian tourists. The initiative also aims to strengthen bilateral tourism relations and position Uganda as a competitive destination in North America.
A reception held for the delegation highlighted the long standing relationship between Uganda and Canada and emphasized the importance of collaboration in growing tourism and business opportunities between the two countries.
Some members of the delegation are expected to return in May 2026 to attend the Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo (POATE), where they will further explore investment and partnership opportunities within Uganda’s tourism sector.

Uganda’s Growing Tourism Ambitions
Uganda, widely known as the Pearl of Africa, continues to promote its unique tourism offerings, including mountain gorillas, chimpanzees, diverse bird species, scenic landscapes, and vibrant cultural communities. Attractions such as the source of the Nile, the Rwenzori Mountains, and protected national parks continue to attract global interest.
The government has been promoting sustainable tourism as a key driver of economic growth, job creation, and environmental conservation. Efforts are also focused on diversifying tourism source markets beyond traditional regions in Europe and Africa, with Canada emerging as a promising market due to its interest in nature based and culturally immersive travel experiences.
Expected Impact on Tourism Growth
Tourism experts note that familiarization trips are among the most effective marketing tools in the travel industry. By experiencing destinations firsthand, tour operators and influencers can create authentic content, build trust with travelers, and develop new itineraries that lead to increased bookings.
Officials remain optimistic that the Canadian delegation’s visit will translate into higher tourist arrivals, stronger partnerships, and greater global visibility for Uganda’s tourism sector. As the delegation continues its 10 day tour, stakeholders will closely monitor the outcomes, hoping it leads to long term growth in Canadian tourist numbers and new opportunities for Uganda’s travel industry.
