Uganda Baati Limited (UBL), a member of the Safal Group, has officially joined the upcoming Gulu City Marathon 2025 as a Gold Sponsor, committing UGX 100 million and exclusive sponsorship rights within the steel category.
The announcement was made yesterday at Uganda Baati’s Head Office in Kampala, where the company reaffirmed its dedication to supporting community-driven initiatives that promote health, unity, and economic growth.

Speaking at the sponsorship signing, Mr. George Arodi, CEO of Uganda Baati, underscored the company’s deep ties to the region:
“Gulu is home to one of our showrooms and a community we’ve walked with for years. Partnering with the Gulu City Marathon is therefore a natural extension of our ongoing commitment to this region, to build stronger, healthier communities.”
Set for December 6, 2025, the Gulu City Marathon is expected to draw hundreds of runners from across Uganda and neighboring countries. During the event, the UBL Clinic will serve as the official first aid station, providing on-ground medical assistance throughout the race. In addition, the Uganda Baati Gulu Showroom will operate as both a kit collection point and hydration station for participants.
Highlighting the broader impact of the partnership, Ms. Jackie Tahakanizibwa, Head of External and Corporate Affairs at Uganda Baati, emphasized that this initiative extends beyond financial contribution:
“Our partnership with the Gulu City Marathon 2025 goes beyond sponsorship, it’s a commitment to community wellness. We’re proud to contribute UGX 100 million in cash and full support through our Gulu Showroom and the Safal Uganda Baati Foundation. From hydration and first aid to heritage and health, we’re running alongside our communities every step of the way.”
Francis Gimara, representing the marathon organizers, applauded Uganda Baati’s support, saying the partnership reinforces the event’s mission to celebrate Gulu’s remarkable transformation:
“The dividends of the run to health are tremendous, yet affordable. We are proud to partner with Uganda Baati. And when it comes to heritage, why Gulu? Because Gulu’s story of resilience, from a war-ridden past to a thriving present, deserves to be celebrated.”
Tourism advocate Amos Wekesa also praised Uganda Baati’s involvement, highlighting the marathon’s potential to drive sports tourism and economic growth in Northern Uganda:
“Tourism is powerful because it’s something you can experience and sports tourism plays a big part in that. When a Ugandan wins the Chicago Marathon, few realize Chicago earns over $832 million annually from the event. Uganda Baati’s support eases the financial burden, making the Gulu City Marathon not just possible, but truly valuable.”
Proceeds from the various race categories will go toward local community projects, further reinforcing the marathon’s mission to promote fitness, unity, and sustainable development in the region.
