Ugandan music star Sheebah Karungi, popularly known as Queen Karma, has once again proven that resilience can rewrite any story. Yesterday, the award-winning artist unveiled a newly built home for her mother a powerful reminder that where you come from does not have to define where you are going.
The celebration, held in Mityana and attended by close friends, fellow artists, and family members, doubled as a housewarming ceremony. Beneath the music, laughter, and joy, however, was a deeply personal story that Sheebah has carried since childhood.
In her emotional speech, Sheebah opened up about some of the hardships her family endured while living in rentals around Kawempe. She recalled one painful childhood memory that has stayed with her for decades.
“I watched my mum being thrown out by a landlord over rent arrears of just 8,000 UGX. I was about five years old. That memory still hurts, I saw her in tears and pain,” Sheebah shared at the ceremony
She also revealed how much shame and fear shaped her early years. Growing up, Sheebah often hid their home from her friends walking them past a different gate, pretending it was where she lived, then returning to the real house once they left.
“I used to hide where we lived because I was ashamed,” she admitted. “But now, I won’t be hiding this house from anyone and neither will my siblings, my mother, or my children.”
The moment was more than a gift; it was a full-circle triumph. Sheebah used her platform to encourage young people and anyone who feels discouraged by their past or present struggles.
Her message was simple but powerful: if she could rise, rebuild, and create a new legacy for her family, then others can too.
With this milestone, Sheebah continues to inspire from her personal journey to her public victories, proving that determination can transform even the toughest beginnings into remarkable success stories.
