The Safal Uganda Baati Foundation has strengthened its investment in education and digital skills development through a new computer donation to the Safal Uganda Baati Technical Training Institute in Tororo. The initiative, carried out in partnership with Kenya’s Mabaati Rolling Mills Foundation and donors from the Angaza Centre Foundation, aims to enhance digital learning opportunities for students and better prepare them for an increasingly technology-driven economy.
The handover ceremony, held in Tororo on June 12, highlights growing regional collaboration in education and skills development, as organizations across East Africa invest in equipping young people with the tools needed for future employment and innovation.
The donated computers are expected to significantly improve the institute’s ICT infrastructure, giving students greater access to digital learning resources, practical computer training, and online educational platforms.
As digital literacy becomes a critical requirement in both higher education and the workplace, education stakeholders increasingly view technology investments as essential to improving learning outcomes and expanding opportunities for young people.
The support comes at a time when Uganda is accelerating efforts to equip students with skills aligned to the demands of the digital economy, particularly in technical and vocational education institutions.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Jackie Tahakanizibwa said the donation reflects the Foundation’s commitment to creating long-term opportunities through education.
She noted that access to technology is no longer optional but a key component of quality learning and economic participation.
According to Tahakanizibwa, investments in education have the potential to transform communities by helping learners acquire practical skills that improve their prospects in an increasingly knowledge-based economy.
The partnership with regional organizations and donors, she added, demonstrates the value of collaboration in addressing resource gaps within educational institutions.
Beyond providing equipment, the initiative forms part of a broader effort to strengthen digital readiness among young Ugandans. Improved access to computers is expected to help students develop ICT competencies, enhance research capabilities, and build skills relevant to modern workplaces.
