President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni concluded his spirited campaign trail across the Teso Sub-region today with a massive rally in Bukedea, applauding the electorate for their unwavering support for the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party. The event, which doubled as a display of regional NRM strength, featured strong endorsements for key party figures and a dose of political theatre.
Addressing the rally, President Museveni extended special congratulations to the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, and other NRM members who secured victory unopposed.
“I also congratulate Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, and the other NRM members who were elected unopposed. This shows the people’s confidence in tested leadership and saves us from wasting resources in unnecessary competition,” the President stated.

During the event Speaker Among, who is also the NRM Second National Vice Chairperson (Female), introduced a young woman, Asio Florence, to the stage. Asio Florence had previously been slated to contest against the Speaker for the Bukedea Woman MP seat under the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket.
“Your Excellency, this is Asio Florence, my daughter whom NUP brought to contest against me. She has never been in NUP. She has never been a politician,” Speaker Anita Among announced, as Asio was ushered in for a photo moment with the President.
Following the introduction, President Museveni seized the moment to criticize the opposition NUP, questioning their organizational depth and knowledge of their own membership base.
Speaking from Bukedi District, President Museveni doubled down on his praise for Speaker Among while using the incident to cast the opposition in a negative light.
“I want to thank you for voting for my daughter, Anita Among, unopposed. I want to show you how shallow and bogus NUP is. They fronted a candidate who is a relative of Anita Among. They didn’t even know who their members were,” President Museveni remarked.
In a show of regional affirmation and support for the NRM leader, Speaker Among and a group of local youth presented the President with significant gifts. These included two heifers, a chair, and traditional stools. The gifts were presented as a “symbolizing their appreciation for his efforts in bringing peace and development to the Teso sub-region.”
