Abraham Luzzi: The “Mr. Economy” Disrupting Kampala Politics

Abraham Luzzi, “Mr. Economy,” is reshaping Uganda’s Kampala Central MP race with a bold, digital-first campaign focused on innovation and youth empowerment.

In the fast-changing landscape of Ugandan politics, one name is making waves both online and on the ground Abraham Luzzi, popularly known as Mr. Economy. A businessman-turned-politician, Luzzi has captured the attention of many internet users and young voters across Uganda with his refreshing, tech-savvy approach to leadership.

Now vying for the Kampala Central Member of Parliament seat as an independent candidate, Luzzi is redefining what it means to run a modern campaign, one built not on noise and crowds, but on ideas, innovation, and integrity.

From Business to Politics: The Rise of “Mr. Economy”

Born to Hajj Badru Kafuuma of Kakiri Luwaga, Busiro, in Wakiso District and the late Hadijah Nantaba from Kibanga Village, Gomba District, Abraham Luzzi’s story is one of ambition and reinvention.

As a businessman, Luzzi’s footprint stretches across multiple industries from gold and sand mining to mechanized farming, agro-processing, tourism, and travel. He is the founder and director of Ssebo Food Industries Uganda Ltd, the company behind Ssebo Pure Maize Flour, a fortified food brand making waves in Uganda’s agro-processing sector.

He also leads Ssebo Pure Gold and Jewelry Center at Serena Hotel in Kampala, a hub for high-end gold trading and jewelry design. Luzzi’s ventures reflect his deep commitment to industrial growth and value addition, two principles he says Uganda must prioritize for true economic transformation.

Adding to his diverse portfolio, Luzzi is one of Uganda’s licensed farmers, processors, and exporters of experimental medicinal cannabis a pioneering move in one of the country’s newest and most tightly regulated industries.

Redefining Campaigning in Uganda: A Digital-First Revolution

While many politicians still rely on rallies and roadshows, Abraham Luzzi is charting a different course. His digital-first campaign has become a talking point across Kampala, using social media to engage young voters and promote issue-based dialogue rather than divisive politics.

“Leadership should not be about who shouts the loudest but who delivers results,” Luzzi says, emphasizing competence and integrity over populism.

His campaign slogan, “Sarah is tall,” a lighthearted reference to his wife, Sarah — has become both a rallying cry and a symbol of his unconventional style. It reflects the personal, relatable tone that has endeared him to online audiences and voters seeking authenticity in politics.

“We’re moving away from politics of noise and rallies to politics of ideas and results,” Luzzi adds. “Digital engagement is the future, it’s efficient, transparent, and empowers the youth to take part in shaping their country.”

Running as a reformist, Abraham Luzzi’s message is simple yet powerful: change from within. His vision emphasizes economic empowerment, youth inclusion, and digital transformation  priorities that resonate strongly with Uganda’s growing urban population.

As he takes on seasoned contenders like Lewis Rubongoya (NUP), Hon. Minsa Kabanda (NRM), Suzan Kushaba, and Moses Muhangi, Luzzi stands out for his focus on policy-driven debate and his ability to connect directly with voters through the internet.

With his blend of entrepreneurship, innovation, and reformist energy, Mr. Economy may just be the kind of disruptor Kampala’s political scene needs, one who speaks the language of progress in a digital age.
